Exceptions
A 45-day exemption to the alternate day rule is available for establishing new grass and for seasonal reseeding. Registration is required. Watering restrictions do no apply to washing of cars, driveways, houses, etc. Use of reclaimed water, well water or ponds does not need to follow the alternate date watering schedule.
The Need for Conservation
Demand for water in summertime can double the demand during winter. To help the Town meet demand during peak usage, customers should water lawns no more than 1 inch per week, including rainfall.
Enforcement
Residential customers who violate the Alternate Day Watering rule receive an oral or written notice. Repeat violations can lead to civil penalties of $100 for the first citation, $250 for the second and $500 for the third. Nonresidential customer fines range from $250 to $2,000.
